If you've been to a wedding or other dancing party recently, you'll probably see Cha-Cha Slide in action. This easy-to-learn dance is often hit at special events.
In addition to being a blast to do with your friends, it's also a good cardiovascular workout. Chicago DJ Mr. C (Casper) created his line dance as an aerobic workout for Bally's Total Fitness in 1996.
Learn the steps below so you know you'll be drawn to the dance floor next time. During the song, you will hear Mr. C take steps to guide you, so there's really no need to memorize the steps. Just take a close look at his calls and follow his instructions - with rhythm every step of the way!
How to make Cha-Cha Slide
"Take it to the left!" or "Take it right!"
(This is a "hanging" step with "touch")
Step along the left (right) foot with the right (left) foot, move sideways with the left (right) foot, the left (right) foot to the left (right.)
"Take it back now!"
(That's three steps in a row with just one tap.)
Step back with left foot, step back with right foot, step back with left foot, touch left to right foot.
"This time it's a jump!"
(The number of hops will change.) Jump forward with both feet.
"Let's stop the right (Left) foot!"
Stop the right (left) foot in front. (If you dare, add your own personalities with your arms.)
(This step is actually from the Latin dance form, Cha-Cha. This is just a "jazz square.") Step left with the right foot left, back with the left foot, step right with the right foot, step forward with the left foot.
"Turn it back!" or "Let's Go to Work!"
(Begin a "hanging" step with a slight turn.) Make a slight turn to the right, move to the right with the right foot, cross your right foot with your left foot, move sideways with the right foot, tap the left foot on the right.
"Clap your hands!"
Put your hands in (fast) rhythm.
Jump with both feet out, jump and cross from left to right, jump with both feet out, bounce both feet together.
Step left with the left foot, slide your right foot to reach the left. "Swipe right!" Move right with right foot, swipe left to right.
Slide it to the other side.
"How low can you go?" (This is the classic "limbo" step.) You can go until you lie down on the ground, bend down as far as you can.
"Bring it on you!"
Stand yourself up, waving your arms over your head.
"Hands on your knees!"
As your hands pass from knee to knee, bend your knees and skip the rhythm.
(This is a "running man" step.) Slide your right foot forward while walking left foot back.
"Freeze!" Take a stand and ... take a stand!
Tips for Cha-Cha Slide
After the last step, the dance will start again.
There are several versions of this dance, but most of the steps will continue to be basic.
